    How to Use Amoxicillin?

In order to properly benefit from amoxicillin you must use it exactly as instructed by your doctor. Follow all of the direction on your prescription. Do not take more or less of this medication than your doctor tells you to. Take amoxicillin at the same time daily.

If you use the Moxatag brand of amoxicillin you should take it with food, or within 1 hour after eating a meal.

Some forms of amoxicillin can be taken either with or without food. Check your medication label to see if you should take your medication with food.

Before measuring a dose of the liquid medication you may need to shake well. Read and follow the directions on the label.

When you take the liquid form of amoxicillin measure the dose with the syringe provided, or with a special medicine cup or spoon. Ask your pharmacist for one if you don’t already have one. You can place the liquid on the tongue directly, or you can mix it with milk, fruit juice, baby formula, ginger ale, or water. Drink the whole mixture immediately, do not save any for future use.

The chewable tablet must be chewed before swallowing. Never chew, break, or crush an extended release tablet. Swallow it whole.

If you use amoxicillin over a long period of time, your doctor may order blood tests as well as tests to check your liver and kidney function.

If you take amoxicillin with lansoprazole or clarithromycin to treat stomach ulcers, use all of the medications as directed by your doctor. Use amoxicillin for the full prescribed length of time. Even if you feel better, your infection may not be completely cleared. Missing doses can lead to a further infection or an infection that is resistant to antibiotics. Amoxicillin won’t treat a viral infection such as the common cold or the flu.
